After the frightful incident that had happened in the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last Friday when Danica Patrick had hit a crewman of another team with her car, Danica is now back trying to get a pole position for the 92nd Indianapolis 500 on May 25. However, tough Danica is now on the track again, she still feels sorry for what happened.
Tony Kanaan of Brazil, their team leader at Andretti Green Racing, gave her some words of encouragement. Kanaan said that when he came back, he watched the video and saw Danica in tears. So, Tony hugged her but Danica cried a little more. Tony believes that his move was not a good one but still gives Danica some pieces of advice.
“I said, ‘Let it go.’ She was like, ‘He has a family.’ I said, ‘It wasn’t your fault.’ I said he’s going to get better. There is not a lot you can say. I said, ‘You’ve got to keep your head straight.’ I said, ‘Go talk to his team, call his family.’”
“Getting a pole here is like winning a race somewhere else,” Patrick said. “I was a little bit worried going in (to the qualifying run) just wondering what was going to come of it because I hadn’t done a full qualifying simulation. So that was a little bit intimidating. (autoracingdaily.com)
Danica has a hard time because her run was not perfect. The first woman IndyCar Race winner hopes to have another run on Saturday but unpredictable weather conditions made her say that she might not be successful.
Further, Danica said that qualifying attempts at Indy is not super easy because the track is very difficult especially when the car is not balanced properly. She feels like they running on a knife-edge when they are on the track.
On Saturday, the first 11 spots will be offered and be decided on Sunday. The slowest qualifiers will be bumped from the lineup next weekend and the final spots will be filled.
